Screen readers are pretty important for many users out there. In the year 2017 month October, WebAIM surveyed liking of screen reader users. And they received 1792 valid responses. And result was  follow-up of previous surveys that were conducted between January 2009 and July 2015.But there are a lot of developers who are not familiar with screen reader technology. Many users of the website are blind. For such users screen reader technology is really useful. For the screen reader users, they don’t get visual view of the website, we can still convey structure of the website using correct semantic elements.

Screen reader looks for the landmarks on the website and convey the view and what is written on the website to the user. First of all developer, who don’t know about the landmarks, needs to understand what landmarks are? Landmarks are basically HTML5 tags that a screen reader will look for. Landmark tags are <nav>, <main>, <section>, <article>, <aside>, <frame>, <footer>.  Suppose screen reader is reading navigation menu. Then it will read the “<nav>” tag. It will also look for “<ul>”,“<li>” and “<a>” tag for the link. Following link it useful to learn more about it. https://www.w3.org/TR/wai-aria-practices/examples/landmarks/HTML5.html
